Ashlyn James, Registered Psychotherapist
Mindful Pleasures Therapy is led by me Ashlyn James a Registered Psychotherapist. I hold a Master of Education (MEd) in the Counselling and Psychotherapy program at the University of Toronto. In addition I hold a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology at the University of Alberta.I draw from past work as a family wellness coach, child and youth care worker, volunteer at the University of Albertas distress centre, and my current research position at the University of Toronto, working life promotion and suicide intervention.
With clinical training & professional experience I predominantly specializes in treating people who are presenting with issues in the realm of childhood trauma, sexuality, desire, racial identity, life transitions, Complex PTSD, anxiety, and depression. My approach includes elements of attachment theory, social justice and whole person wellness. I use an integrative approach drawing from Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, and Sensorimotor modalities. As a compassionate guide I ensure her approach is strength-based and trauma-informed.
As a mixed race woman my priority is building a warm, validating, trusting, judgment-free, anti-oppressive, safe space to work on these challenging issues. In doing so I hope to help you strengthen your mind body connection allowing you to grow from your struggles, heal from your traumas, whilst learning new coping strategies and tools to move forward.
